Central Utility Plant

MultiCare Medical Center
Tacoma, Washington
20,000 sq. ft.

This building houses boilers, emergency generators and electrical distribution equipment. Redundancy and expansion space are provided for both steam and power systems and the structure is designed to withstand a severe earthquake and remain operational. The brick and cast stone exterior honors neighboring vintage buildings while artwork and inscriptions highlight the history of steam and electrical power.

MultiCare's new Central Utility Plant is a replacement for an outdated and undersized installation that was located in the path of long-term growth of patient care facilities.
